Questions answered byCamazotz, December, 1996.

+ First of all I must compliment you on your band name - an exceptional choice, and one with many suggestive associations, if I may say so. To my mind, though, there are two main ways in which the lore of the Spear can be interpreted. Some, I think, would tend to place it more within a purely anti-christian context - this object being that which, after all, supposedly delivered the death-blow to christ. On the other hand, the Spear's connection with the various Reichs is also well-known, so for others this would give the legend more of a political overtone in addition to its more 'mystical' connotations. Therefore, what threads of the Spear's symbolism are most important for you, personally?
'All are equally important. You can't ignore anything in this world if you're going to have any kinds of insight into anything. But you forgot one very important aspect, that of S.O.L, the sun, light, knowledge [power], the luciferian...and we are sun-kings to the twenty-third degree! Did Jesus really die on the cross? Or was this 'just' an Essene sun-king rite? Was Jesus doped on the cross with 'vinegar' and sliced with a spear by the centurion Longinus to prove his somewhat early death [a couple of hours as opposed to days...] Did you know Mr. Longinus was present when Christ 'rose' from the dead? And that he had his very own sarcophagus complete with a portrait and engravings? Strange for 'just' a centurion wouldn't you say...'

+ I think it is an understatement to say that the title of your demo, 'Nazi Occult Metal', leaves little room for ambivalence! Would it be correct to view the title in terms of it simply being plain-spoken and honest? [For I would find it difficult to believe that it was merely chosen for 'shock' value...?]
'That's correct, we are a very honest and sincere band. I call a spade a spade, this is the only way to be, and we expect the same in return; unfortunately this is a rarity in this world. The term Nazi Occult Metal is also my lifestyle. Pure fact.'

+ Since I am sure you get asked about the subject constantly, I shall get it over and done with right away; whenever the word Nazism is mentioned, things can become rather...delicate [I suppose that's one word you could use.] So, rather than focusing on something overly specific, I shall simply ask - what are your opinions about such views? In other words, if you wish, you can say as much or as little about it as you please...
'Okay, here's a challenge for your average Joe and for those who would consider themselves more than the average Joe. I'm talking here of no less than a complete re-evaluation of all values as Neitzsche said, especially as concerned with National Socialism. Now you must forget all hostile propaganda right down to the smallest thought which the globe takes to be fact...and on what evidence? Nothing more than the continued propagation of lies for the last fifty years. If one looks for evidence to back up these twisted lies you will soon find there is none, apart from the standard parrot vindictiveness of these weak fools' masters. Surely the greatest flaw in these accusations of race-hate from Nazis [a superb diversional tactik if ever there was one] is the simple fact that their allies were the Japanese! National Socialism is not racism. Racism is racism, which is ignorance. Unfortunately most of today's 'Nazis' have fallen for the same slander as today's 'Anti-Nazis'. The 'great beast', the Roman materialist New World Order regime laughs at you and will go to any length to silence a true Nazi. One day people will realise that the National Socialists [the true] of then were the last great power/chance to stop the very same pigs who now control this planet Earth, temporally. You see this [holy] struggle goes way back to the days of Atlantis [in this age] and beyond, it is the eternal struggle of the spiritualist [Nazi] outlook as opposed to the crass materialist outlook manifest in what we would call a 'Jewish' mindset. Now this is not to say that all 'Jews' - however you may define a Jew these days - are 'evil'. I would say that this Jewish mindset exists in all races or certain castes/levels of races including Aryan. The above statements are something you will never find in any history book. It is a cosmik vibe you must tune in to [truth]. To me, National Socialism stands for all that is mighty, noble, just, imperishable and...archaik, a true revival of the old ways. This is why it has been so viciously attacked, slandered and maligned by the corrupt victors [temporal victors that is] of the second great struggle of humanity. Indeed National Socialism is exceedingly human or pagan. Just look at the fucking state of the world since the 'good' guys won. In all events one creates one's own reality and this is mine, and for this one fact no-one can fault us with this world-view; for it is intention that is most important...and our intentions are nothing but noble and just in this corrupt reality. That is of course unless you are one of 'those' who would control, misinform and restrain man's natural evolution...perhaps then you may dub us evil...nemesis...'

+ You also produce a zine called 'Hamarr', could you reveal something of its purpose? And do you see 'Hamarr' as primarily a different medium for the expression of similar ideas - in this case the printed page, as opposed to musical recordings?
'Correct. With 'Hamarr' we can deal with these things with a little more clarity. As my lyrics tend to come out a little disjointed and vague [at least I guess they would if you're not me] at times, they are generally vibe/essence drawn from some place...else. But still we like to keep 'Hamarr' simple both in format, cost and to a lesser degree content, to avoid being dogmatik. We'd like to offer our perspective and give what we can to either enlighten one or to prompt them to either question for themselves or to do further study and prove us wrong. So long as someone learns something out of it, somewhere along the way, this is enough. 'Hamarr' deals with occultism and history in a way that I loosely term 'Ariosophy'. Evolution and Enlightenment are the game plan here.'

+ I see that although you hold Odinist beliefs, you are careful to distinguish between various ways in which these beliefs can be incorporated into the ideals of the individual. One particular statement in 'Hamarr' two which I thought was brilliant is as follows: 'Even many [most?] of the hard-line 'Odinists' have a cosmology that is essentially christian... Odin [or Balder] is their Jesus. Loki is their Satan. Ragnarok is their Armageddon. The whole significance of Indo-European cyclical cosmology has been rendered null and void.' Terms like 'dichotomy' and 'dualism' are almost dirty words in pagan and occult circles these days, but are these concepts totally useless?
'This depends entirely on your interpretation of such terms. For example, I can see two ways such a term as dualism can be used. First, in a restrictive, separatist, christian way that denies the role of 'negative' aspects of cosmology and secondly, in a purely pagan confirmative view of the interpretation of polarities [positive and negative] to create change and evolution. I believe the Cathars [christian 'heretiks'] preached a form of 'dualism' which was actually the opposite of the Roman Church's inverse views, so in reality it was a pagan 'tenet'. Though it seems the Cathars preached a true christianity [Gnostik] as opposed to the Roman political religion.'

+ Continuing from above - for example, if one understands that two apparently opposed ideas can also be viewed as complementary parts of a whole, then can duality in that context have some validity? Or do you think that holistic [or cyclical] and dualistic systems can't really be reconciled in this way?
'Cyclik and dualistik systems complement each other, they work together. Wheels within wheels. Yes, a paradox. A paradox is only a paradox if one does not have the required understanding.'

+ What are some of the other tenets of Odinism, then, that are most often misunderstood? As of its central ideas and practices pertaining to everyday life, which do you think are the least often really applied by people claiming such beliefs?
'Sincerity is most often lacking, along with conviction. Odinism to me is plainly the quest for knowledge, I would be very careful about pushing and 'set' tenets too laboriously, as it is a pagan 'way' and should not be boxed or strictly defined. Each individual's way or wyrd is independent yet interacting with others', especially those of your own 'spiritual' caste or clan. To place any kind of 'law' upon it is to deny the very essence of evolution. Are these tenets you speak of, the ones included in 'Hamarr'? These were required for the government when we got Odinism to be a 'recognised' religion...for religious freedom purposes. These are the tenets that the Odinic Rite of England use. Misunderstood? Hmm...I guess people don't realise this is a living, breathing...force, just as potent as ever before. It is to be used today for today. Not just some kinds of nice nostalgic...easy way to pass time for a bit [feel-good bullshit religion].'

+ In contrast to dualism, an idea with which many esotericists seems besotted is reincarnation. Do you have any thoughts about why there is this persistent notion that reincarnation is an 'Eastern import', so to speak [why, for instance, despite the idea's precedents in Germanic and Celtic lore, many still view it as alien?]
'Probably because reincarnation has been re-introduced to us after the Roman suppression via what we call 'Eastern' esoteriks.'

+ Is it perhaps because of the persistent tendency to devalue 'Western' mystical tradition? I mean, when one considers the commonly-held false view that European cultures have few real occult traditions, perhaps it is not so surprising that 'non-standard' world-views often need to claim 'foreign' origins in order to gain some sort of credibility?
'As I said above, it is all part of the 'Roman' tactik, or conspiracy. This is why the Romans killed off all the Druids. To rob us of our spiritual links. As we are a naturally spiritual folk it is only right that some would seek this aspect in 'Eastern' traditions. I have no problems with this. I would see this as a thread of, or link to, an earlier, more unified and profound 'system' or way. Just as our earlier tribal days were.'

+ What is your view of the so-called 'Western Esoteric tradition' built upon the tarot, the griminess and so forth, claiming ancestry back towards Hebrew, Egyptian and supposedly Sumerian and Assyrian lore? Is its relevance perhaps overstated? And do you feel its importance for modern occult thought distracts from other bodies of knowledge more worthy of attention?
'I'm sure these things go back much further than Sumer, etc. but yes, overstated? More worthy? Only if you're not at the right level for such information to be meaningful/applicable. The individual will 'find' the right path at the right time if he is aware and seeking.'

+ To move on to a different subject...concerning opposition to christianity. I hold that one of the most important processes to be undertaken in this area is for each individual to develop a world-view in which christianity is ultimately of no consequence. Through this, in my opinion at least, the cumulative effect of such a shared perspective can begin to alter the present reality. [As a counterpart to more direct actions, which are an allied but separate matter.] I also tend to think that such a process has already begun, especially when one considers the degradation of the importance of ecclesiastical opinion in the present age, compared to the church's power in the past. Is this a realistic view, though?
'Not really. 'Religion' has only ever been one arm of the 'enemy's' tactik. They are a controlling regime in all aspects of life. I understand what you are saying though, and this aspect too should be kept alive and nurtured. Christianity or more specifically, the corrupt 'mindset' of which we speak, is a chameleon 'world-view'. We must therefore be most flexible in our own tactik without diluting our 'reason'. One thing I can't stand is all these wankers ranting and raving about how 'weak' the Christian and Christianity are... what shit. The people who control Christianity control this world. They affect each and every one of us. If this 'creed' is so weak then why do all these people 'dedicate' their lives to fighting it? A lax view of this nature [yours] may well also work to the opposite theatre as well, so too with 'direct' actions. We must be a tribe or dynasty, within the 'whole' yet outside it. As this way is alien to us. Exactly as this alien 'elite' would have it for themselves.'

+ Then again, there are people who seem to have given up in a way - they have accepted that the situation as it stands with regard to christianity may not ever change, or at least not in the foreseeable future. Do you have a similarly fatalistic view as the latter, or do you believe that real results can yet be obtained, in this matter?
'The world is a struggle, a test, something to understand and overcome. I oblige. This world can and will be changed. This happened in the past. It will be again. As I said we must work on ourselves in a Gnostik fashion and also 'our' folk, scattered as we are, must 'strengthen' ourselves with the concept of Aeoniks, which is I believe what you were getting at in the previous question. A cumulative, progressive effort/action.'

+ Anyway, leaving those areas...I understand you have played live more than a few times. In general, how have you found the audience's reaction to be? And are live performances something you find satisfying, usually?
'Live is great. All those auras crammed in a small place...nothing beats it. Musik is a live living divinity. So play live and interact with folk and cosmos. Tribal destinies... Naturally the sound, etc. is not always what you want, but that's part of the whole deal, that tribal human-ness. Maybe people aren't entirely sure how to take us, which is a good thing. But one thing's sure, we're not stupid morbid statues, or worried about some shitty clinical 'professionalism', etc. Vibe is all I care about.'

+ Your demo seems to be a rather professional product compared to many around these days; and virtually all reviews I have read of it have been favourable; on this basis, were you at all surprised by how well it seems to have been received?
'No but yes. We play honest. So if people groove that's mega, but we do this for ourselves [those of our caste] not for any other reasons. Cliche. Though I can't get rid of the feeling that if we weren't so 'blunt' we'd be more 'popular'?'

+ And are you working on anything new, recording-wise, now? If so, than will your future material be in a similar vein to that of the demo?
'We have more stuff recorded now, though I have no idea on what format it will be released, these tracks have an 'honest', natural '86-ish vibe to them, not like some others... Some trax are: 1: 'What is it Aton? My Side Itches' 2: 'Tribal Wars' 3: '[I Am] War' 4: 'The Nomad Heretic' 5: 'Blood Soul' 6: 'Macha [Queen of the Dead]' 7: 'Devil's Poison.'

+ So, have their been any particular labels taking an interest in Spear of Longinus of late? Though I suppose I should also ask if, for that matter, you are actually anxious to be signed at all, at the moment?
'We have had label interest, yes. A deal of some nature would be nice, but this is not at the top of our list of priorities. I've noticed how so many 'things' change when this occurs. The only thing we really want is to release vinyl some day...then I will feel...free.'

+ How, then, shall we conclude this interview?
'Thanks for the time and space, mate. Hail Satan / Asa-Thor, the destroyer of the destroyers.'
